New Airport Research Shows Driving To Detroit Costly To Regional Businesses
Thursday, July 31, 2008

Mid-Michigan business travelers waste time and money driving to Detroit for air travel rather than using the nearby Capital Region International Airport, according to a new study released today. Rosen, Ph.D., recently updated a comprehensive research effort first completed in 2006 titled, the “Detroit Hassle Factor” and found driving to Detroit Metro airport adds nearly $250 to every round trip flight in time and measurable costs for business travelers that fly commercial air service rather than flying from the Capital Region International Airport. The $50 increase in the Detroit Hassle Factor since 2006 can be attributed to high gasoline costs for drivers, high parking fees in Detroit, more time waiting in security screening lines in Detroit and an increase in airline ticket prices.
